With the dry season around the corner, many streams will dry up, and people will not be able to grow fresh vegetables. Animal owners may not have enough fresh grass to feed their animals. What is the solution?- Hydroponics. But, what is Hydroponics? How can one grow food without soil?
This week on Amba Farmers Voice, we shall be talking about Hydroponics. What is Hydroponics? Hydroponics is a method of growing vegetables and fodder without soil. Using very little water, farmers can grow lots of fresh vegetables and animal fodder with this simple technique using just water, seeds and local materials found around villages.
With over 80,000 of our mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters in Nigeria and Ghana as refugees, as well as millions of others who have fled this war and are now in LRC, there is an urgency for alternative techniques for them to grow food to feed their families. Using simple techniques and materials that they can source from trash, they can produce fresh vegetables and fodder that they can eat and sell for additional income.
