Coming Soon: AFV Deployer App

Because most of the people who need our programs are in areas without internet, we are building a Deployer Android Mobile App so that farmers can have free access to all our video content without the need for internet.

With the App, refugees and farmers can view videos, download them to a smartphone, or share them with other people. The App should allow farmers to search videos by topic. Once a desired video is found, it can be watched, downloaded, or shared with other cell phones via a Bluetooth connection.

Amba Farmers Voice Farming Knowledge Game/Quiz – AFV-FKQ?

Agricultural Knowledge/Games Quiz – Testing Farming knowledge

Background:

Problem:

High youth unemployment is one of the biggest problems currently affecting Africa. When youths can’t find viable jobs in their communities, they begin to migrate from rural areas in search of opportunities in bigger cities or different countries where they face an uncertain future. Furthermore, young people are usually not interested in agriculture in large part due to their perception of farming being antiquated and unprofitable. In addition to lack of knowledge, capital etc, the image of agriculture traditionally has been more about subsistence where you produce enough for you to eat. It is not seen as a business. How can African youth of the 2st century begin to develop interest in agriculture?

Smartphones are penetrating Africa at a very fast rate. Many youths in Africa have smartphones, which they mostly use to play games, access Facebook,  and other social media. Smartphones can be used as a tool to educate young Africans to be interested in agriculture.

Thus, the need for a knowledge base game app that enables 2 or more people to answer agricultural questions in the form of a game.

Such an app will bring together young people to learn about agriculture and hopefully gain the interest to become farmers.

Amba Farmers Voice Farming Knowledge Game/Quiz show is inspired from the television game show – Who wants to be a Millionaire. The show features a quiz competition with contestants attempting to win a top prize by answering a series of multiple-choice farming questions, usually of increasing difficulty.

Drawing from this inspiration, we are interested in designing an app? That will run on android phones and our website where different contestants can sign in to play the game as a team, or anyone in a remote village with access to the internet can access it to play the game and in the process learn something on a particular farming topic.

Features of the app should include the possibility of SMS/audio/video conference between the players.

The app should enable players to obtain points for any right question answered. At the end of the game, the app will show the top scorer of the game. The app should be able to be installed on Amba Farmers Voice Facebook page, website and Youtube pages at the end of each episode of Amba Farmers Voice program.

The app should enable players anywhere in the world to connect to it and play, and also provide the possibility of someone to invite a friend anywhere in the world to play.

For security reasons, data transmitted between the players should be encrypted. Furthermore, the app/website should be secure enough to prevent hackers
